About Hive & Home

Gary Adkison had been running framing crews in Gulf and Bay counties for over 30 years, building hundreds, maybe thousands, of home throughout his construction career. During the economic decline of 2007/2008, new homes were not among the typical Americans priorities. The winds of change, therefore, began to blow him in a different direction. As a lifelong Gulf County resident who didn’t want to move, he began to search both his heart and the local community of Wewahitchka he called home, for what was next for him, and then, he heard the buzz of the honey bee. He began to learn from veteran bee keepers in the area, and it wasn’t long before he was stung by the honeybee—for life.

Fast forward several years—as Pam Palmer was retiring from a 21 year career as a school counselor and principal in Gulf County, she was exploring new things, embarking on adventures, wide open to what the next chapter of her life would be. She had determined to say YES to any job, experience, learning opportunity that she hadn’t done before. In a magical turn events (We will leave that story for another time.), Gary and Pam, who had know each other for 26 years because of her work in the school system with his children, were brought together in a way that some would say was nothing short of miraculous, and the bees, were the matchmakers! Pam began to run the business side of things for North Gulf Apiaries while Gary honed his skills as a beekeeper.

As life unfolded for Gary, Pam and the bees, Gary added building back to his beekeeping and  suggested Pam consider a second career as a residential contractor. After some initial resistance (because it wasn’t her idea!), she began to prepare for her contractor’s license exams. Gary was convinced that her experience with budgets, schedules, contracts, grants, but, primarily, people in the school system, would make her perfect in this line of work. He knew that he could bring his technical expertise, as well as 30 plus years of relationships with subs and vendors in the area. After several months of preparation, she passed the first exam, the second, and then the third—onto, working under experienced contractors in the field.

Now, Pam Palmer is a state certified, licensed residential contractor and the owner of Hive and Home Residential Construction, LLC. Along with her husband and job-site foreman, Gary Adkison, they are building homes for folks from Port Saint Joe to Mexico Beach, and back around to their home in Wewahitchka. Their blend of talents, makes them unique in the building industry.

Today, Gary and Pam run both Hive and Home Residential Construction and North Gulf Apiaries, home of Blue-Eyed Girl Tupelo Honey. The bees are the reason. The hives, homes, and honey are the beautiful by-products!

Kristen was a former student of Pam's when she was working in the education system.  She is now an accounting major in college and is an asset to the Hive and Home team.

Just like Pam and Gary, their lengthy history makes Hive and Home Residential Construction feel more like family than co-workers.

When you call or email us, Kristen will probably be the first person you encounter.
She does much of the day-to-day administrative work and all of the bookkeeping for Hive and Home.

Our Quality Guarantee

When Gary and Pam began envisioning Hive and Home Residential Construction, their desire was to build quality homes for families that would last. More than simply building houses as a vocation, sheltering individuals and families felt more akin to a calling.

With this as our core belief, we not only strive to obtain the highest quality materials for our construction, but we also provide our own labor on many aspects of our home building.

We have, also, developed long standing relationships with sub-contractors who work on our projects, and they exemplify the same commitments to quality.

Create your dream home.
